Overview
One dashboard, every location: that's the promise of the UMix Dashboard. UMix Peek, now part of the Dashboard, adds a new dimension: it lets you see exactly what any music player in your account is doing, through a direct connection from your screen to the player.
Log in at myumix.com, click a button, and you can watch any player live and interact with it as if you were standing in front of it.
Whether you get a call at 8 p.m. from your one location or you oversee hundreds, you can know the current state of any player the moment a question comes up, from anywhere, anytime. You can solve many problems without sending anyone on site or opening a ticket. When a location reports trouble, make Peek your first step.
Peek is included in your UMix subscription at no extra cost.
Which Players Have Peek
Peek works on UMix Android music players purchased from us, with software version 21.1 and later. Windows players can't use Peek.
On the Locations page, the eye in the Actions column tells you whether a player has Peek. Hold your mouse over it to see which case applies:
- An eye: “Peek at this player.” Click it to open Peek.
- A gray eye with a line through it: “Peek arrives with this box's next player update.” The player gets Peek automatically with its next update.
- A gray eye with a line through it: “Peek isn't available on this player.” This player can't use Peek.
If you run the UMix app on your own Windows computers, that remains a great way to use UMix, and how you choose to work with your own devices is always your call. If you'd like Peek at any of those locations, it comes with a UMix Android player. To ask about one, open a support ticket (see
How to Get Support).
Who Can Use Peek
- Account admins can use Peek on every player in the account, automatically.
- Managers can use Peek only when their account admin turns it on (see Giving a Manager Access to Peek below).
Opening Peek
- Log in at myumix.com and click Locations in the menu on the left.
- Find the location and click the eye in the Actions column.
- Peek opens in a new browser tab and shows “Connecting to the UMix device…” until the player's screen appears.
Using Peek
Anything you do in Peek happens on the player itself.
- Click to tap.
- Click and hold to long-press.
- Drag to swipe.
- Scroll your mouse wheel to scroll.
- Right-click or press Esc to go back.
- Type on your keyboard to type on the player.
The bar across the top shows the location's name, Back and Home buttons, Reboot device, the time left in your session, and ✕ to close Peek.
Rebooting a Player
- Click Reboot device.
- Peek asks “Reboot this device?” Click Yes, reboot, or Cancel to leave it running.
- Peek shows “The device is rebooting.” Close the tab, wait one minute, then open Peek again from the Locations page.
Music at the location stops while the player restarts.
Session Limits
- 15 minutes per session. The timer at the top right counts down. When it reaches zero, Peek shows “The session ended.” Click Reconnect to start a new session.
- Two sessions at a time. You can have Peek open on two players at once. If you try a third, Peek shows “You already have two Peek sessions open. Please close one of those to open a new session.”
- One viewer per player. If someone else opens Peek on a player you're viewing, they take over and your session ends.
Giving a Manager Access to Peek
Managers start with Peek turned off. As the account admin:
- Click your initials at the top right of myumix.com, then Users.
- Click the pencil (Edit User) next to the manager.
- Turn on the UMix Peek switch: “Can remotely access all players in your account.”
- Click Save.
The Peek column on the Users page shows Yes or No for each user. If you turn Peek off for a manager who then tries to use it, they see “Your access using UMix Peek has been disabled. Check with your account admin.”
If Peek Can't Connect
Peek works over the player's internet connection, so it can't reach a player that is offline.
- “The device did not respond — it may be offline.” The player didn't answer within 15 seconds. Click Try again, or work through Troubleshooting Player Offline.
- “The device disconnected.” The player lost its connection during your session. If it comes back, the picture returns on its own.
- “The connection was refused.” Log in at myumix.com again and reopen Peek from the Locations page. If it's still refused, open a support ticket.
If Peek shows the player's screen, the player is online. If you still have a problem at the location, work through Solutions.
